A warehouse keeper at Kantamanto has been put before an Accra Circuit Court for stealing tiles and toilet rolls valued at Gh¢ 86,472.
Kofi Asamoah has been charged with two counts of stealing, but has pleaded not guilty to both.
The court, presided over by Mr M.E. Essandoh, consequently, admitted Asamoah to bail in the sum of GH¢ 70,000 with two sureties, who are to be public servants.
Asamoah is expected to reappear on October 22.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Francis Tassan said the complainant, Mr Clerck Baffoe, was a trader who resided at Kumasi, while the accused person was also a trader and a warehouse keeper at Kantamanto.
Prosecution said in April last year, Mr Baffoe took delivery of 400 boxes of unpolished “salt and pepper” tiles valued at GH¢ 29,640 and 435 bundles of toilet roll valued at GH¢ 56,832, belonging to a friend for safe keeping.
According to the prosecutor, the accused person charged the complainant GH¢1,200, which he readily paid.
Prosecution said Mr Baffoe informed the accused person that the items would be collected by the said friend when he returned from abroad.
When the complainant was ready to collect the items, Asamoah told him that he would personally send the items but he failed.
Chief Inspector Tassan said Mr Baffoe took a vehicle to the warehouse at Kantamanto to collect the items but the accused was nowhere to be found.
Later, prosecution said, the accused person told the complainant that he had sold the items.
After several demands for the money, Mr Baffoe reported the matter to the Police and Asamoah was arrested.
Prosecution said Asamoah refunded 200 boxes of the tiles valued at GH¢ 14, 820.
