A drug dealer who has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for mixing Indian hemp, also known as Wee, with Akpeteshie, a local gin, has been ordered to hand over GHc97.45 and his drinking spot at Bekwai in the Ashanti Region to the State.

The Bekwai Circuit Court judge, presided over by Fredrick Nawura, said the confiscation of the drinking spot and money was in accordance with Section 13 of PNDC Law 236.

David Adu, 47, was caught selling Akpeteshie laden with Indian hemp at his drinking spot following a police operation on August 20, 2015 in the municipality.

He was jailed for 15 years after admitting the offence of indulging in prohibited business relating to narcotics.

Delivering the sentence, the presiding judge said the special concoction was offensive and dangerous, pointing out that the harsh sentence was intended to serve as deterrent to others embroiled in the narcotics trade.

The judge also ordered that the concoction, which was presented as exhibit, should be destroyed in accordance with police procedure.
