Sekondi (W/R), Oct. 11, GNA - The Western Regional Command Police has arrested two farmers=97-Kwaku Sammy and Kwaku Ansah-- at Otwereso, near Akyem Oda for allegedly engaging in human trafficking. Addressing a press conference at Sekondi at the weekend, Mr Kofi Duku Arthur, the Regional Police Commander, said on September 19 this year, Sammy, 40, lured his 21-year-old cousin, Kwabena Amankwaah, from Otwereso to Tikobo No.2 under the pretext of seeking his assistance to trace his relations, who hailed from Ekpu, near Half Assini. Mr Arthur said at about midnight the next day, Sammy sent Amankwaah to Mallam Kaku, a traditional healer, to whom he had offered his cousin for sale at 250 million cedis, which he had intended to use to expand his cocoa farm.

The Regional Police Commander said Sammy was arrested by the Tikobo Community Watchdog Committee while he was bargaining the price over Amankwaah and handed over to the Mpataba Police. Mr Arthur said during interrogation, Sammy mentioned Ansah as an accomplice who had introduced him to Mallam Kaku as a dealer in human beings.

Ansah was also arrested later at Akyem Oda. The accused persons have since been arraigned and remanded in custody to reappear at the Sekondi District Magistrate's Court on October 16, this year.
