Kumasi, June 17, GNA - A Kumasi Circuit Court on Friday remanded into prison custody, a 45-year-old galamsey operator and granted him a bail of GH¢5,000.00 for allegedly assaulting his wife on two separate occasions. Joseph Yaw Kese pleaded guilty to assault but not guilty to causing unlawful damage and threat of death.

He would re-appear before the court on Monday, June 20, 2011. Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the Court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that the complainant, Ama Bonsu, a trader lives with the husband at Sepe-Dote in Kumasi.

She said it had become the habit of Kese of assaulting her with whom they have had a daughter.

The Police Chief Inspector said in September last year, a quarrel ensued between them and Kese, who took offence, beat Ama mercilessly.

She said this made Ama to leave the husband and went to stay with the sister at Aboabo.

Accused not satisfied, traced Ama to her sister's residence, where he destroyed her personal belongings worth GH¢500.00

He also asked the complainant to return his engagement ring else, he would kill her in addition to their daughter.

For fear of her life and that of the daughter, Police Chief Inspector Baffour-Kyei said, Ama rushed to the Asawasi police to lodge a complaint leading to the arrest of Kese

Whilst on trial, Kese again went to the house and beat her for the second time.
