Woman jailed two years for stealing

Tema, Nov. 4, GNA- A 30-year-old woman, charged with stealing, was on Thursday sentenced to two years' imprisonment in hard labour by a Tema Circuit Court 'B'.

She pleaded guilty to stealing personal effects and cash worth over 700,000 cedis.

Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor told the court that the complainant is a sister in-law to one Paulina Coker who was the accused person's cellmate in Tema.

She said Gifty during her stay with Paulina in the cell sought much information about her relations and where they stayed.

On October 28, after she had been granted bail she went to the house of the complainant, posed as a Social Worker attached to the James Fort Prison and told the complainant that Paulina had asked her to send her some items including provisions and personal effects and also arrange counsel for her.

The prosecution said after Gifty had left with the items the complainant detected that some items including her passport and a cash of 600,000 cedis were missing from her wardrobe.

She became alarmed and rushed to James Fort Prison where she detected that all that Gifty had told her were lies.

When Gifty was searched the handbag was found without the money and other items.
