SSS graduate remanded for assaulting policeman

Breman Asikuma (C/R), Oct. 22, GNA - The Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa district Magistrate's court, presided over by Mr. Akwasi Asiedu Asmah, on Friday remanded an SSS graduate Emmanuel Appiah for two weeks for assaulting a police Officer.

The plea of Appiah, aged 18, was not taken and he would re-appear on November 3, 2006.

Detective Police Sergeant Emmanuel Darkwa, prosecuting, told the court that on October 19, 2006, the complainant who is a Police sergeant at Breman Asikuma was among five police officers detailed to arrest a wanted person at Aniehu, a suburb of Breman Asikuma.

He said when the policemen arrived at the targeted compound the accused person who lived in the same room with the wanted person saw them through the window and therefore locked the door.

The prosecution said when efforts by the police to persuade the accused to open the door failed, they forced it opened and on entry into the room, Appiah slapped one of the policemen.

He said the police Officers managed to arrest both Appiah and the wanted man.
