Breman Asikuma (C/R), Feb. 3, GNA - The Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Police Command has requested for the establishment of a branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVISU) in Breman Asikuma to deal with the increasing rate of domestic violence cases against children and women in the District.
Superintendent of the Police in Charge of the District, Mr Mike Avadetsi said this at this year's West African Security Services (WASSA) get-together organised by the Police Service at Breman on Friday. He said the Police were worried about the upsurge of rape, defilement, spousal beating and neglect of child maintenance in the District, adding that this had increased the number of street children and juvenile delinquents.
Superintendent Avadetsi commended the police personnel in the District for their hard work and dedication to duty, which led to the reduction in accident cases and crime wave in the area last year. He said in 2005 71 people were convicted for committing various offences against the state but this reduced to 56 in 2006. The Police Commander expressed his gratitude to the people of the Area for their cooperation with the police and called for such cooperation to be continued to ensure peace in the area. He appealed to supporters of the various political parties in the District to organize their campaign in a peaceful manner devoid of rancour and insults to avoid crashes.
The Police Commander warned that any person who would misbehave or take the law into his own hands and cause trouble would be made to face the law. 03 Feb. 07
