Kade (E/R), Feb. 13, GNA - William Agyekum, a farmer, has appeared before Kade Magistrate's Court for attacking and causing harm to a suspected rival. The prosecution charged him with assault, but the Magistrate, Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, advised that the charged sheet should read assault and causing harm.

The accused was placed in police custody to reappear on February 25. Presenting the facts of the case, Police Inspector D.T. Nartey, said the complainant, Kingsley Asamoah and the accused were farmers at Asuom. He said at about midnight on January 13, the complainant was sleeping when he heard someone banging on his door. The prosecutor said initially the complainant refused to open the door since it was too late, but was compelled to do so when he heard another knock on his window. When the complainant asked who was knocking, the accused mentioned his name.

He said Agyekum started making unusual noise, accusing the complainant of abducting his wife and keeping her in his room. To convince the accuser that his wife was not in the room, the complainant opened the door. Inspector Nartey said the accused attacked Agyekum and attempted slashing his abdomen with a knife. Asamoah repulsed the attack but sustained an injury and was treated and discharged in hospital. 13 Feb. 10
