Awal, the gold dealer who was allegedly traced and shot dead by gunmen
Another person has been shot dead by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in the Ashanti Region, raising concerns about rising gunshot-related crimes in the region.
This occurred on the evening of Wednesday, August 13, 2025, when a young man, only identified as Awal and a gold dealer, was shot and killed at about 8:20 P.M. at Konongo Low Cost in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality while he was supposedly returning home after errands.
Assembly Member for the Amerfa Kyekyewere Electoral Area, Samuel Baiden, who confirmed the incident to Citi News on Thursday, August 14, 2025, said the assailants traced Awal to his residence and opened fire on him.

He disclosed that the gunmen who shot the gold dealer, bolted the deceased's bag, suspected to contain money and gold.
The shooting of the young man by suspected assailants has heightened tension in the area, as it adds to the recent spate of such cases recorded in the Ashanti Region.
According to the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons' report for the first quarter of 2025, the Ashanti Region tops gun violence cases in Ghana with 12 incidents recorded.
This marks a significant increase from 3 cases reported in the same period of 2024, representing a sharp rise in gun-related violence.
The Assembly member appealed to the government to tighten up security measures in the area to curb the rising incidents of gun violence.
