Josiah Elorm Kwame Amezado, was arrested after police searched his room
The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man at Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region for possession of suspected counterfeit foreign currency and an unauthorised firearm.
According to a statement released on its social media handles on January 22, 2026, the service disclosed that the arrest was carried out by the National Operations Directorate Surveillance Unit following reports that a fetish priest in the area was allegedly involved in criminal activities.
The police said that, acting upon intelligence gathered, the suspect, identified as Josiah Elorm Kwame Amezado, was arrested after police searched his room.
“A search conducted in the suspect’s room led to the retrieval of quantities of US dollar notes in one-hundred-dollar denominations, a pair of handcuffs, a black vest, a Kuzey A100 blank pistol, and fifty-eight 9mm blank ammunition,” the statement said.

He is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. Police say enquiries are ongoing to determine the source and authenticity of the foreign currency.
“The suspect is currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to establish the source and authenticity of the currency as well as the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and other items,” the statement concluded.
