Two persons have been arraigned before the Adabraka District Court for allegedly causing damage to a tombstone at the Osu Cemetery in Accra.
They are Eric Tawiah Annang, a 62-year-old contractor, and Joseph Donkor, a 35-year-old labourer.
The two have been jointly charged with abetment of crime, while Donkor faces an additional charge of causing unlawful damage to a tombstone valued at GH¢4,500, property of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly.
They pleaded not guilty and were admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢10,000 each with two sureties. The Court ordered them to reappear on March 24, 2026.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana said the complainant was the Head of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly Task Force. He said Annang resided at Osu, while Donkor lived at the Arts Centre, Accra.
The prosecution said on February 8, 2026, at about 0800 hours, the Sexton of the Osu Cemetery, who is a witness in the case, embarked on patrol following allegations of illegal grave digging.
During the patrol, the witness heard a noise and proceeded to the scene, where he allegedly found Donkor and an accomplice attempting to disinter a grave after damaging a tombstone.
The witness instructed them to stop and accompany him to his office.
On the way, Annang allegedly informed the witness that he had engaged Donkor and his accomplice for the work because he had a permit.
The prosecution said a Task Force team arrived at the cemetery, but Donkor’s accomplice fled.
Annang and Donkor were arrested and taken to the Osu Police Station for investigations.
Chief Inspector Achana said during investigations, Annang and Donkor admitted the offence.
