A popular musician in Manso and its surrounding communities, Akwasi Gyamfi, also known as Sly Doe, has been arrested for allegedly killing a 30-year-old bartender, Nana Yaw, at Mpatuam in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.

The incident reportedly occurred on February 27, 2026, following a dispute over a rented space.

Ama Kraa, the deceased’s girlfriend, told OTEC News’ Kwame Agyenim Boateng that Nana Yaw was attacked with a small axe after a misunderstanding with Gyamfi.

“We had hired a space from the suspect’s family for a drinking bar business, and for some time, he had been picking fights with us,” she said, adding that Gyamfi would often tamper with their electricity meter, leading to scuffles.

“He switched off the meter again, and when we confronted him, he went inside his house and came back with an axe and attacked the deceased,” Ama Kraa narrated.

The suspect has since been arrested by police at Nkawie and is assisting with investigations.

The incident has shocked the community, with many residents calling for justice for Nana Yaw.

Police are yet to release further details on the case.
