The president of the Ashanti Regional Scrap Dealers Association, Alhaji Abdulai Gagala, has raised alarm over what he describes as a growing pattern of attacks on scrap dealers in Ghana’s Ashanti Region following the lynching of two of his members at Ntensere in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District.

According to a report by adomonline.com on March 18, 2026, the victims identified as Alhassan and Nagolo, were reportedly attacked and killed by residents who accused them of attempting to steal a child.

The two men were said to have been in the community to purchase scrap materials when suspicion quickly escalated into violence.

“This is becoming too frequent in the Ashanti Region. Our members are often attacked based on false accusations. We are not thieves, people should stop killing us,” he lamented.

Their motorcycle was also set ablaze during the incident, highlighting the intensity of the mob action.

No arrests have been made so far, according to local authorities.

Unit Committee Vice Chairperson for Ntensere, Saramatu Zackaria, confirmed the incident, explaining that she arrived at the scene after the attack had already taken place.

“I was attending a wedding ceremony when I received information about a mob action in my electoral area. I rushed to the scene, but before I arrived, the victims had already been killed, leaving their lifeless bodies behind,” she recounted.

She added that residents claimed the two men attempted to steal a three-year-old child, which led to the attack, but condemned the act and called for a thorough police investigation.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue for autopsy, while police have launched investigations as calls for justice continue to grow.
