A 25-year-old man has been extradited from Nigeria and charged in connection with the 2018 murder of a Ghanaian national, Joseph Boadu, in south London.

A report by The Standard on April 15, 2026, stated that Matthew Adebiyi was charged with murder upon his arrival in London and remains in custody.

“A man has been extradited from Nigeria and charged with the 2018 murder of a 23-year-old in London. Matthew Adebiyi, 25, arrived in London on Wednesday and was subsequently charged with the murder of Joshua Boadu,” the report said.

Boadu, also known as SJ, was attacked in broad daylight in south London in June 2018.

He sustained serious injuries to his chest, neck, and arm and was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

However, he suffered a heart attack on the way and was later placed on life support, which was withdrawn ten days later.

Two other individuals were previously convicted in connection with the murder.

Denilson Davis, 27, and a 16-year-old boy from the Southwark area were sentenced at the Old Bailey in September 2019.

Police said the attackers drove to the scene in a Peugeot, ambushed Boadu, and fled in the vehicle.

Investigators later obtained footage showing the suspects in a “celebratory mood” at a recording studio in Lewisham on the same evening.

Less than a week after the attack, officers spotted the Peugeot and observed the driver attempting to flee.

Davis was subsequently arrested.

Forensic analysis found Davis’s fingerprints in the vehicle, along with the DNA of the 16-year-old and traces of Boadu’s blood.

A hunting knife and a mobile phone recovered from the car were also linked to Davis, who admitted ownership.

Following the 2019 convictions, Boadu’s family said in a statement; “Words cannot begin to describe how life has been since Josh’s passing. He will be forever in our hearts."

“Josh had his whole life ahead of him and was full of untapped potential, but his life was cut short by a vicious and senseless murder,” she added.
