Interior Ministry adjusts Gushegu curfew amid security concerns

Residents in parts of the Gushegu District will now have to adjust their daily routines following the Ministry of the Interior's announcement of new curfew hours.

The directive, which takes effect from Monday, April 20, 2026, was issued on the advice of the National Security Council as part of efforts to calm tensions and protect lives. Under the new arrangement, movement will be restricted between 8:00 pm and 4:00 am each day.

The curfew affects several communities, including Paboni, Yidaani, Kukpok, Busun No. 1 and No. 2, Nagnani, Nayagile, Donbin, Kolik, Tinyongu, and Klokpan—areas where authorities say tensions have required closer monitoring.

For many residents, the announcement means rethinking evening activities, business hours, and social gatherings, as security agencies step up their presence to maintain order.

Officials say the decision is not just about restriction, but about preventing further unrest and creating space for calm to return.

Community members, especially traditional leaders and the youth, are being encouraged to play a key role in restoring peace by cooperating with authorities and exercising restraint.

The Ministry is also urging all sides involved in the tensions to prioritise dialogue over confrontation, stressing that lasting peace can only be achieved through mutual understanding.

As part of the tightened measures, a complete ban has been placed on the possession, carrying, or use of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons within the affected communities. Authorities believe this will reduce the risk of violence and help stabilise the situation.

While the restrictions may feel limiting, the government insists they are necessary steps to safeguard lives and restore a sense of security in the district.
