The Nkwanta Municipal Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the unlawful possession of a firearm and a large quantity of ammunition during an intelligence-led operation at the Brewnaise Police barrier in the Oti Region.
According to a statement issued by the Oti Regional Police Headquarters in Dambai on April 29, 2026, the suspects were intercepted while travelling in a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GW 9927-13.
"The Nkwanta Municipal Police Command has arrested two persons for unlawful possession of firearm and large quantities of ammunition following an intelligence-led operation", it noted.

Police said the vehicle, which was driven by 27-year-old Richard Kpimbi with 20-year-old Latif Adam acting as his mate, was subjected to a thorough search by officers on duty.
Officers subsequently uncovered a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition carefully concealed within the vehicle.
“A thorough search conducted on the vehicle revealed one Adler pump-action gun,” the release stated, adding that officers also discovered “seven thousand AAA cartridges, three thousand BB cartridges and one thousand one hundred and twenty-four live rounds of AK-47 ammunition,” the statement said.
The items were reportedly hidden inside plastic sacks and boxes beneath tarpaulins in an apparent attempt to evade detection.
Both suspects have since been taken into police custody and are assisting investigators with ongoing enquiries.
“The suspects are in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations,” the statement confirmed, noting that all retrieved exhibits have been retained for further action.
The police reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety and urged citizens to support law enforcement efforts.
