The Ofaakor Circuit Court has sentenced 30-year-old Michael Ayitey to 2 years’ imprisonment for possessing a firearm without lawful authority.

Presiding judge Nana Asantewaa Atakorah handed down the sentence after Ayitey pleaded guilty to the firearm charge, adomonline.com reported on May 14, 2026.

Police say "Ayitey was arrested by the Awutu Bawjiase District Police Command led by ASP Godwin Nornoo."

Investigations show that on April 30, 2026, he allegedly attacked a woman with a gun and tried to rob her before residents intervened and rescued the victim.

He was arraigned on two charges: possession of a firearm without authority and robbery.

Ayitey pleaded guilty to the firearm possession charge but denied the robbery allegation.

The court sentenced him to 2 years’ imprisonment on the firearm charge. Proceedings on the robbery case have been adjourned to May 27, 2026.
