Live cartridges recovered by the police
Police in the Central East Region have begun a manhunt for armed robbers following a deadly attack on a mobile money vendor at the Gomoa Dominase onion market, which left one person dead and another injured.
This was contained in a statement signed by DNF Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Region.
“The Central East Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into a robbery incident involving a mobile money vendor and another person within the Gomoa Dominance onion market,” it stated.
According to the police, "The Gomoa Dominance District Police received information to the effect that, some armed men in face masks had attacked a mobile money vendor at the Gomoa Dominance Onion market, during which process, gunshots were fired indiscriminately by the suspected robbers who are currently on the run.”
Upon receiving the information, a team of police officers responded swiftly.
The statement further noted that preliminary investigations have revealed the identities and condition of the victims.
“The mobile money vendor, identified as Hamisu Addai, and one other victim, who sustained gunshot wounds, had been rushed to a nearby polyclinic for medical treatment,” the statement added.
It further explained that “the injured victims were referred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, Witness due to the severity of their injuries. Sadly, Hamisu Addai was pronounced dead on arrival at the facility, while the other victim remains (name withheld) is currently responding to treatment,” it stated.
The police said during their forensic examination at the scene, “The police recovered fourteen (14) spent and one live BB cartridges from the scene.”
Authorities confirmed that “all exhibits have been retained as efforts intensify to get the perpetrators arrested.”
The command reassured the public of their commitment to justice.
“The Central East Regional Police Command wishes to assure the general public of its resolve to identify and arrest the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” the statement added.
