Two young men have been arraigned before the Ashaiman Circuit Court for allegedly robbing and assaulting a 29-year-old trader at Pesewa Plaza in Ashaiman.
The accused persons, 18-year-old student Mohammed Saad and 19-year-old delivery rider Aaron Tetteh, are facing charges of assault, robbery and abetment of robbery.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on June 13, 2026, at about 3:40 a.m., when the complainant, Annette Bless Mantebea, was walking through the Pesewa Plaza area.
Police allege that Mohammed Saad attacked and assaulted the victim, causing injuries to her front teeth, before attempting to rob her of her handbag containing GH₵300.
The complainant reportedly resisted and managed to retrieve the handbag. However, the suspect allegedly made away with her Tecno Pop 8 mobile phone valued at GH₵1,000 and attempted to flee.
The prosecution further told the court that Aaron Tetteh was allegedly waiting nearby on a black Royal Eagle motorbike with registration number M-25-GT 1028 to facilitate their escape.
Residents who witnessed the incident reportedly pursued and apprehended Mohammed Saad, while Aaron Tetteh initially escaped on the motorbike.
The victim was issued a police medical report form and later received treatment at the Ashaiman Municipal Hospital, where a medical officer confirmed her injuries.
Police said Aaron Tetteh was later brought to the police station by Mohammed Saad’s father and was subsequently arrested.
According to investigators, both accused persons gave caution statements admitting their involvement in the alleged offences.
The Ashaiman Circuit Court has taken cognisance of the case, while exhibits, including the Tecno Pop 8 mobile phone and the handbag, have been retained by the police as evidence. The matter is expected to proceed through the judicial process.
