Juvenile, 3 others arrested in connection with murder of couple at Kusanaba

The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested four suspects, including a juvenile, in connection with the murder of a couple at Kusanaba, a suburb in the Zebilla District of the Upper East Region.

This update was shared by the police on their social media page on Monday, June 23, 2026.

The suspects, identified as Safianu Salam, Awal Salam and Jawal Salam, along with a juvenile whose identity has been withheld, were arrested at their hideout in Kugre near Garu on June 19, 2026.

According to the police, the couple were in their room when four armed men attacked and shot them.

"Apam Azubilla and his wife were in their room when four men with a weapon entered their room, attacked and shot them. Apam Azubilla shouted for help and his brother Ayubugre Apam who heard the call, rushed to his brother’s room and saw them lying in a supine position with blood on the floor," it stated.

The victims were rushed to the Zegoyire Health Centre.

"Apam Anomsigna was pronounced dead upon arrival. Apam Azubilla was also pronounced dead on arrival at the Zebilla District Hospital, where he had been further referred for medical attention", the statement said.

Police said an examination of the bodies revealed gunshot wounds. The family of the deceased subsequently handed over three spent AK-47 ammunition shells to investigators.

The police said the suspects are currently in custody and will be put before the court to face justice.

"The suspects are in police custody and will be put before the court," it added.
