“Yesterday around 7:30pm, I heard a distress call from the forest, so I rushed there and called four other boys. We used a torchlight to enter the forest,” he said.
“We later switched off the torchlight and could hear some sounds. We saw the suspect with his brother, who was covered in blood stains. We rescued the victim and sent him to the police station,” he narrated.
The suspect, identified only as Kwadwo, was subsequently arrested and taken into police custody, where he is assisting with investigations.
According to the Unit Committee Member for the area, Esther Kissiwaa, tensions heightened after the arrest, with an angry crowd attempting to attack the suspect.
“An enraged crowd tried to assault him after he was arrested, but police quickly intervened to prevent mob action,” she said.
She further disclosed that two young men were injured during the ensuing chaos and were taken to hospital for treatment.
