Two arrested over 170 parcels of suspected Indian hemp

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two suspected drug dealers and seized 170 parcels of suspected Indian hemp during an intelligence-led operation at Katariga in Tamale.

According to a report by adomonline.com on July 28, 2026, the operation was conducted by officers from the Regional Special Operations Team, popularly known as Red Maria, under the leadership of Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku, on Monday, July 27, 2026, at about 5:30 pm.

The operation led to the arrest of 32-year-old Godwin Yamegi, who was allegedly found in possession of two parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Police said that during interrogation, Yamegi identified 33-year-old Seth Amekuse as his supplier.

Acting on the information, officers proceeded to Amekuse's residence at Katariga, where they carried out a search and arrested him.

The police said the search uncovered an additional 168 parcels of the suspected narcotic, bringing the total seizure to 170 parcels.

"The operation led to the arrest of 32-year-old Godwin Yamegi, who was found in possession of two parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp," the Regional Police Command said adding that during interrogation, Yamegi identified 33-year-old Seth Amekuse as his supplier.

According to the police, both suspects remain in custody assisting with investigations, while the seized exhibits have been handed over to the Regional Drugs Law Enforcement Unit for further action.

The Regional Police Command said the operation demonstrates its commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking and other related criminal activities across the region.

"The operation underscores our resolve to combat illicit drug trafficking and related criminal activities across the region," the command said.

Police added that investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals linked to the alleged supply chain as efforts continue to dismantle the network.

The two suspects are expected to be arraigned before court to face prosecution.
