The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man, Gyamfi Christian, in connection with a suspected fake gold scam involving GH¢1.1 million in the Berekum Municipality.

The suspect was arrested on August 17, 2026, at his hideout in Wamfie in the Dormaa East District, following intelligence-led investigations.

According to the Bono Regional Police Command in a statement dated August 21, 2026, the case was reported by 29-year-old gold aggregator, Christopher Awuni.

The Police said Awuni reported that four men claiming to be gold sellers sold him 110 troy ounces of gold for GH¢1.1 million in July 2026.

“Subsequent testing of the gold revealed that it was fake,” the Police said, adding that the suspected fake gold had been retained as exhibits.

During interrogation, Gyamfi Christian allegedly admitted his involvement in the transaction and told investigators that the deal was concluded at Drobo in the Jaman South Municipality.

The Police further said the suspect identified three alleged accomplices as Abraham, alias Frenchman, who is believed to be the leader of the group, Isaac Antwi and Balthazar.

“The three accomplices are currently at large,” the statement said.

Preliminary investigations have also revealed that the group allegedly defrauded another victim of GH¢1.4 million in a separate transaction at Drobo earlier this year.

The suspect remains in Police custody and is assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to arrest the remaining members of the alleged syndicate.

The Bono Regional Police Command has consequently urged the public to exercise caution when engaging in gold transactions.

The Police also advised members of the public to conduct proper verification before committing funds to gold deals and to report suspicious activities to the nearest Police station.
