Police seize 192 suspected cocaine wraps in Wa; two suspects remanded

The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects and seized 192 compressed wraps of a substance suspected to be cocaine in Wa.

The suspects, identified as 26-year-old Abdulai Isaac, a driver’s mate, and Iddrisu Kamaldeen, were arrested in connection with the alleged trafficking and distribution of narcotic substances in the region.

The arrests followed intelligence received by the Police about the transportation of suspected cocaine from Kumasi to Wa through the Bole enclave.

On September 6, 2026, the Police mounted surveillance along the suspected route and intercepted Abdulai Isaac at the ESP Bus Station in Wa.

A search of his backpack led to the discovery of 192 newly concealed compressed parcels of a substance suspected to be cocaine.

During interrogation, Abdulai Isaac reportedly named Iddrisu Kamaldeen as one of his customers. Kamaldeen was subsequently arrested and admitted to being a customer of Isaac, according to the Police.

On September 14, 2026, the Police, in collaboration with officers from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Wa, conducted a field test on the seized exhibits.

The test was conducted in the presence of the two suspects, their family members and the Police, with the substance testing positive for cocaine.

Abdulai Isaac and Iddrisu Kamaldeen have been remanded and are scheduled to reappear before the court on October 9, 2026.

The Police said investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to locate and arrest other persons mentioned in connection with the suspected narcotic trafficking network.

The Upper West Regional Police Command said it remains committed to disrupting organised criminal networks and preventing the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs in the region.
