Police interdict seven officers over alleged extortion in Accra

The Ghana Police Service has interdicted seven police officers over an alleged extortion incident in Accra involving a patrol team.

The officers are accused of demanding money from a victim and allegedly compelling him to withdraw funds from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) for them.

In a press release dated Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the Police Service said the interdiction was intended to pave the way for investigations into the incident.

“The Ghana Police Service has interdicted seven Police personnel in connection with an alleged extortion incident in Accra,” the statement said.

The interdicted officers have been identified as Inspector Courage Boateng, General Sergeant Stephen Addo, General Corporal Moses Anyarvi, General Corporal Prosper Adiabo, General Lance Corporal Samuel Anokye, General Constable Henrietta Coleman and General Constable Bernard Amoako.

According to the Police, the officers were members of a patrol team at the time of the alleged incident.

“The personnel, who were members of a patrol team, are alleged to have demanded money from their victim and compelled him to withdraw the same from an ATM for them,” the statement said.

The seven officers have been interdicted to allow the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to conduct investigations into the allegations.

The Police Service did not disclose the amount of money allegedly demanded from the victim or provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It, however, assured the public that the allegations would be thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigations.

“The interdiction is to make way for ongoing investigation by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB),” the statement said.

The Service further assured the public that “the matter will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action taken based on the outcome of the investigations.”

The latest interdiction comes as the Police Service continues to take disciplinary action against personnel accused of misconduct in the course of their duties.
