Police intercept truck with 5,164 suspected narcotic parcels in Oti Region

The Oti Regional Police Command has intercepted an articulated truck allegedly transporting 5,164 parcels suspected to contain narcotic substances concealed in secret compartments.

The DAF articulated truck, with registration number GE 3906-15, was intercepted on September 14, 2026, following intelligence received by the Police.

According to the Police, a search of the truck led to the discovery of the compressed round parcels hidden in concealed compartments.

A statement signed by the Deputy Superintendent of Police and Head of Public Affairs for the Oti Region, John Nchor, said the truck was “suspected to be conveying narcotic substances concealed in secret compartments.”

Three persons have been arrested in connection with the consignment.

They are Abdul Razak Adamu, 35, the driver; Jubril Amidu, 33, a mechanic; and Aliu Adamu, 33, a driver.

A fourth occupant of the truck, identified as Adamu Iddi, reportedly escaped and is currently being pursued by the Police.

The three arrested suspects were arraigned before the Dambai Circuit Court on September 17, 2026, presided over by Justice Dr Moses Bedima Duut.

They were remanded into police custody and are expected to reappear before the court on October 15, 2026.

The Police said the truck has since been impounded, while the suspected narcotic exhibits have been secured to support ongoing investigations.

“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the escaped suspect and identify other persons connected to the consignment,” the statement said.

The interception forms part of the Oti Regional Police Command’s efforts to combat narcotics trafficking and organised crime in the region.

The Command has also appealed to the public to provide credible information that could assist in the investigation and apprehension of other persons linked to the consignment.

“The Oti Regional Police Command assures the public of its continued commitment to combating narcotics trafficking and organised crime and urges the public to provide credible information to assist the Police,” the statement added.
