The suspects were caught in possession of narcotics
Five suspects have been arrested in Tamale after a police operation targeting drug peddling, drug use, and other criminal activities led to the seizure of suspected narcotics, two pistols, and cash.
According to a police statement on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, the operation was carried out by the Northern Regional Police Command’s Special Operations team, known as Red Maria, on Monday, September 21, 2026, at about 11:30 am.

The police said the operation was based on information they had received and was conducted at the Tamale Aboabo scraps area near the forest.
“Acting on credible information, the team proceeded to the Tamale Aboabo scraps area, near the forest where five (5) suspects were arrested,” the statement said.
The suspects have been identified as Ibrahim Issahaku, 39; Mohammed John, 28; Mohammed Nawas, 25; Mohammed Osman Awal, 41; and Kwame Boateng, 28.
Police disclosed that a search at Ibrahim Issahaku’s residence led to the recovery of two foreign-made pistols, two rounds of 9mm ammunition, one parcel of suspected Indian hemp and GH₵1,880 in cash.
They also found GH₵18,825 concealed inside Kwame Boateng’s motorcycle at the ghetto, with the money suspected to have come from the sale of narcotic drugs.
“Additionally, GH¢18,825.00 was found to be concealed inside the motorcycle of Kwame Boateng at the ghetto and is suspected to be proceeds from the sale of narcotic drugs,” the statement noted.

Other items recovered included 123 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, 12 sachets of 1mg Rohypnol, seven sachets of 250mg Tramadol, 111 wraps of suspected ashes and three motorbikes.
Police added that the exhibits have been handed over to the Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit (RDLEU) for further investigation and necessary action.
