A 40-year-old man has been arrested at the VIP Bus Terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra after police allegedly discovered 91 parcels of suspected Indian hemp packed in three suitcases in his possession.

The suspect, identified as Roger Borbobli, was arrested on October 29, 2026, following intelligence that he had been spotted at the busy transport terminal with three suitcases containing the suspected narcotic substance.

According to the police, some loading boys at the terminal became suspicious after detecting an unusual smell coming from the suitcases. They subsequently alerted officers, who rushed to the scene and arrested Borbobli.

A search of the luggage reportedly uncovered 91 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The suspect allegedly valued the consignment at GH¢33,600.

During interrogation, Borbobli reportedly told investigators that he was a farmer from Sovie Kudzra, near Kpando in the Volta North Region. He is said to have admitted cultivating Indian hemp but claimed that the parcels found in his possession were acquired from another farmer identified only as Benjamin, who is also from the same community.

The police say the seized substances will be forwarded to the Police Forensic Crime Laboratory for analytical examination to establish their actual composition.

Borbobli remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations. He is expected to be put before court to face the necessary legal processes.

The arrest forms part of police efforts to clamp down on the possession and transportation of suspected narcotic substances.
