Tarkwa, May 22, GNA - A Tarkwa Circuit Court has granted bail in the sum of GH¢10,000 to a driver, Adam Yakubu, for dangerous driving, which led to the death of another driver and injury to two passengers. He pleaded not guilty and will re-appear before the court on June 1.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court, presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo, that on May 8 last year, at about 0530 hours, the accused person was driving an Iveco tipper truck with registration number GT 7086-09 loaded with quality bauxite from Awaso towards the Takoradi Harbour. He said on reaching a section of the road at Traboum junction, near Dompim-Pepesa, he lost control of his vehicle, which swayed into the opposite lane and collided with an oncoming KIA truck with registration number GR5736V. It was loaded with 20 bags of cements and was being driven by Timothy Asakum from Takoradi.

Inspector Paddy said the driver of the KIA truck was trapped to death while, Gabriel Dapaah and Patrick Blay who were on board sustained injuries. The Prosecutor said both vehicles were badly damaged and some of the cements were damaged. According to the prosecutor, during investigations it was detected that the road worthiness certificate of the Iveco tripper truck had expired. The prosecutor said the Attorney-General's Office, eventually, recommended the prosecution of the driver, leading to his re-arrest.
