Woman abandons baby near mortuary

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Oct. 12, GNA - The police in Dormaa Ahenkro ar= e making efforts to locate the mother of a five-month old baby boy found abandoned near the mortuary of Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital. The baby was brought to the police by a tearful passer-by who found it last Thursday and is being kept at the hospital.

The baby was brought to the police by a tearful passer-by who found it last Thursday and is being kept at the hospital. Mr. Owusu Sekyere, Dormaa Municipal Social Welfare Officer, told the He said when his office conferred with the Police it was decided that the baby be given to the hospital while arrangements were made to send it t= o a children's home. Mr Sekyere appealed to the public to volunteer information on 93any nursing mother who has suddenly lost her child within the past week." Mr. Fred Effah-Yeboah, General Manager of the Hospital, condemned the behaviour of the baby's mother and appealed to 93women who feel they ca= nnot afford to take care of their children to avoid bringing them into the world." "This is why the health sector has provided various family planning methods and facilities to provide safety valves for partners who would want to engage in sex but avoid giving birth", he said.
