The Half Assini Magistrate Court in the Western Region on Friday remanded two persons for allegedly causing abortion.
The plea of John Otsiabah, an 18-year-old unemployed from Elubo and Michael Atuobi, a 34-year-old chemical seller who is also Tufohene of Sowodadzemu near Mpataba, were not taken, and were remanded in prison custody to re-appear on December 3.
They are being charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit crime, abortion and resisting arrest.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Emmanuel Osei Kumi told the court presided over by Mr.Hans Kofi Kpogo that Otsiabah befriended Ramatu Imoro, a 23-year-old final year student of Onso Nyameke Ye JHS near Elubo for some time now.
Inspector Kumi said about a month ago, Ramatu informed Otsiabah of her two-month old pregnancy, but Otsiabah warned her to keep it secret.
The prosecution said, on November 22, Otsiabah took Ramatu to one Atuobi who agreed to conduct the abortion for Two Hundred Ghana Cedis..
Inspector Kumi said Atuobi detected that the pregnancy was three months old, and allegedly inserted an implement in the womb of Ramatu, in an attempt to syphon blood, but this resulted in her bleeding profusely.
Inspector Kumi said when Ramatu reported bleeding the next day, Atuobi detained her in his house pending treatment.
The prosecution said a good Samaritan passing by saw her lying unconscious and informed a witness in the case who in turn informed Ramatu's father, Mr Issaka Imoro.
Mr Imoro consequently reported the case to the Mpataba Police, and the two accused persons were picked up for interrogation.
