A 37-year-old driver is in the grips of the Teshie Police Command for allegedly stealing two side mirrors and four automatic rolling switches of a Corolla S with registration number GN 2248 -12, belonging to one Samuel Agyei-Mante.
The suspect, Kwasi Boateng, was arrested by some members of the Teshie Watchdog Committee when his was on his way home with the items in a black polythene bag.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Simon Agbodeka, Teshie District Police Commander, the suspect was spotted by members of the Teshie Watchdog Committee at about 3am on October 20 on his way home when they were on their usual night patrols.
Being suspicious, the watchdog committee members interrogated the suspect about where he was going and the contents of the black polythene he was carrying.
The patrol team, not convinced, searched the polythene Kwasi was carrying and found the mentioned items in addition to a pair of pliers, screwdrivers and a pair of scissors.
When questioned about where he got the car mirrors and the automatic rolling switches from, the suspect confessed to have stolen them from Tema.
DSP Agbodeka stated that he was then arrested and brought to the police station for further investigation.
At the police station, the owner of the items, who woke up and realised that the said items were stolen, also came to lodge a complaint with the police.
Fortunately for him, the police were still processing Kwasi and he identified the items as his. In the process, Kwasi withdrew his previous statement and said that he had stolen the items from Teshie and not Tema.
The suspect has since been arraigned before court for the offence of stealing and causing damage to property.
