A Nyinahin Magistrate Court, presided over by Mr Sam Nibi, has convicted a farmer for mobile phone theft and sentenced him to a fine of GH¢ 600.

Peter Sowenti, 21, would spend 60 days in prison, should he fail to pay the money.

His conviction came after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Chief Inspector Samson Cobbina told the court that the crime was committed on November 5.

He had sought shelter from a rainfall at a carpenter’s shop, operated by Kwadwo Antwi, at Nyinahin, and there he stole the phone.

The prosecution said Antwi detected the theft after the rain subsided and Sowenti had left. He traced him to a nearby house where a search conducted on him uncovered the phone.

He was subsequently handed over to the police.
