The Ashanti regional police command has arrested six suspected members of a robbery syndicate notorious for attacking passengers on the Ejura-Mampong highway.

The gang, led by robber, Ibrahim Mamudu alias Ali Jumah, has been on the police radar for sometime now. Their arrest followed a robbery attack on some passengers at Agona-Bepoah where victims were robbed of unspecified amounts of money and dozens of mobile phones.

According to the police, the lead suspect, 35-year old Ali Jumah, operates with Kofi Azumah alias Adama or Taller, 30 years; Issaka Amidu alias Musa 25 years; and Issaka Abubakar also 25 years. Other accomplices include Seidu Osman, 43 years and Ali Issaka, 42 years.

The Ashanti regional deputy police commander, ACP Ampofo Duku, says the robbers were arrested on Friday June 15, 2017 when they boarded a Kumasi-bound mini bus from Mampong.

“Upon reaching a police barrier near Mampong, the suspects sensed danger and attempted to bolt. But the police men overpowered them and got them arrested,” he said. Mr. Duku further revealed that, upon interrogations the robbers admitted to the crime and led the police to recover some guns and ammunitions hidden at a nearby forest.

Weapons retrieved included two single barrel guns, locally made pistols and some live ammunitions.

Further interrogations led to the arrest of Seidu Osman, an accomplice at Atimatim Trabuom.

Seidu also known as Alhaji, who is said to be the keeper of the weapons, led the police to arrest Ali Issaka another accomplice at Alabar in Kumasi.

Ali is alleged to be the supplier of the weapons. “He supplies weapons to some Fulani people to rob,” ACP Ampofo Duku stated. The suspects would be arraigned soon.
