The Police in the Brong Ahafo Region have arrested three persons at the Tamale Station at Techiman for attempting to transport 147 compressed parcels containing dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp from Kumasi to Bawku in the Upper East Region.
The suspects, Issah Tanko, 49, a bus driver, Moro Ibrahim, 45, a taxi driver and Yahaya Issah, 51, a porter, are currently in police custody assisting the police in their investigations.
The Brong Ahafo Police spokesman, Chief Superintendent Kinsley Oppong, told DAILY GUIDE that the first suspect, Issah Tanko was a driver in charge of the vehicle with registration number GT 3447-15 from Kumasi to Bawku.
He said on reaching Pramprosu, a town along the Techiman-Kintampo Highway, a police patrol team stopped the vehicle as part of its routine checks.
He said upon the search, three maxi fertilizer sacks were retrieved from the backseat of the bus which contained 147 parcels.
He explained that the driver, Issah Tanko, was consequently arrested.
During interrogation, Tanko told the police that upon reaching the Tamale Station at Techiman from Kumasi, Moro Ibrahim, a taxi driver and Yahaya Issah, a porter at the station, placed three sacks on the bus to be delivered to somebody at Bawku.
Chief Superintendent Kinsley Oppong said the team proceeded to Tamale Station and arrested the two persons.
He told DAILY GUIDE that further investigations revealed that one Tanko based in Bawku in the Upper East Region contracted the two to transport the parcels to him.
He praised members of the public who regularly volunteer information to the police to arrest the criminals in the country.
The police chief said the suspects would soon be arraigned before court after police investigations.
