Consultant in court for fraud

Accra, Dec. 21, GNA - A Photographic Consultant, who allegedly defrauded a Housewife of 180 million cedis under the pretext of selling her a parcel of land at Asylum Down in Accra on Tuesday appeared at a Circuit Court charged with fraud.

Nii Kwadwo Armaah, the Consultant, pleaded not guilty and the Court admitted him to 200 million cedis bail with a surety to be justified. Nii Armaah would reappear on January 11.

Chief Inspector Emmanuel T. Boison told the Court that early this year, Nii Armaah, through his agent called Brown, informed Madam Faustina Waife that he was selling a parcel of land at Asylum Down. Madam Faustina expressed interest and Nii Armaah sent her to the site to inspect and bargain for the land.

The Prosecution said Nii Armaah and Madam Faustina settled on 180 million cedis and she issued a cheque for 160 million cedis and added her Audi car to make up to the 180 million cedis.

The Prosecution said Nii Armaah then began to use the car. When the Madam Faustina went to the Land Title Registry with the documents for registration, she was told that the land did not belong to Nii Armaah.

The Prosecution stated further that all efforts made by Madam Faustina to get her money refunded to her had proved futile.

The matter was reported to the police and Nii Armaah was arrested. The Prosecution said during investigations, it came to light that the land was in dispute and a suit on it was pending at an Accra High Court.

Nii Armaah returned the vehicle and paid 10 million cedis but failed to refund the rest of the money.
