Court remands unemployed over stealing

A 22-year-old unemployed has been remanded into prison custody by a Kumasi circuit court for allegedly stealing from a house at Atonsu S- line in Kumasi.

Cardinal Asare also known as Nchankota, the accused, pleaded not guilty to the charge and will make his next appearance at the court presided over by Mary Nsenkyire, on July 09, 2019.

His accomplice only known as Randy, is now at large.

Prosecuting, ASP Felix Akowua, told the court that on 02/05/2019 at about 1430 hours, the Asokwa Police Patrol team upon a tip-off proceeded to the said house belonging Gladys Addae Bonsu, complainant in the case, where accused allegedly had broken into, in her absence.

He said the accused was caught red-handed as he was about to escape with the booty in a travelling bag he was carrying to escape from the said house, however his accomplice managed to escape.

ASP Akowuah said when the bag was examined, it was found to contain a quantity of shirts, seven waist belts, ten wrist watches, some perfumes, two Mediacom tablets, Sony digital, one decoder with its remote control,14" flat screen television set, a pump action gun and one mietro bretta pistol, concealed in another small bag.

He said the accused in his investigative cautioned statement admitted to the crime and mentioned Randy as his accomplice.

Prosecution said the complainant after returning from work was informed about the theft and she proceeded to the police station where she identified the items as hers.

After investigations, the accused was charged and arraigned.
