An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded a musician for allegedly possessing 18 slabs of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Kwame Wuasi, 24, pleaded not guilty to possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority.
He will make his next court appearance on January 13, 2020.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Godfred Asiedu Bampoe told the Court presided over by Justice Jane Harriet Akweley Quaye, a High Court Judge, sitting as an additional Circuit Court Judge, that Wuasi resides at Banana Inn near Dansoman in Accra.
He said on December 12, 2019, Police Personnel from the Dansoman Divisional Command conducted swoops at the hideouts of crime suspects in the environs.
He said in the course of the exercise, the accused on seeing the team ran into his bathroom to hide but upon suspicion, he was arrested.
Chief Inspector said following a search in his room, the Police discovered the 18 slaps of the dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in his television set.
Chief Inspector Bampoe said the suspect was then arrested and sent to the Police station to assist in investigations.
The Prosecution said the accused in his cautioned statement admitted that the substance was Indian hemp, but it was hidden in his room through his permission by one “Governor,” his friend who promised to come for it on a later date. Meanwhile, Wuasi failed to lead police to the said friend.
