2008 Kente Dance in Columbus (OH)

Without a doubt, the kente cloth is one of the most colorful adornments every man and woman should have as part of his or her wardrobe. And if September finds you in Columbus (OH), then you are in luck – you get to clad yourself in a piece of rich Ghanaian heritage and join in the premier gala dubbed the Kente Dance.

September 20, 2008 at the Ramada Plaza Hotel on Sinclair Road in Columbus (OH) promises to continue in the tradition of elegant entertainment and philanthropy. In addition to providing an evening of Ghanaian dance and entertainment for the Central Ohio community the organizers will donate proceeds to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s children’s ward.

Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital is spoken of highly by many Ghanaians in Central Ohio as a leading healthcare institution which has over the last decade spiraled downward into an institution needing medical attention of its own. This hospital, according to several Ghanaians in the area, is one of Ghana and West Africa’s leading hospitals but to the patients who lay on the floors in the corridors of these hospitals, they visit the hospital because there is nowhere else to go.

From 9pm till 4am, the music of Gye Nyame Soundz – featuring Ghanaian hiplife, highlife, traditional, and gospel, as well as Ivorian, Nigerian, and other African chart-topping hits – is a promise of a night to remember.

The 2008 Kente Dance is organized by Talking Drums Productions, a Columbus-based not-for-profit organization focused on cultural awareness and philanthropy. In January 2008, Talking Drums Productions presented pediatric sphygmomanometers, lumbar puncher sets, and other supplies to the Korle-Bu Department of Child Health.
