I don't think this will deter those countries from coming to UK because their relatives have money to pay for that. If you are in UK and a well to do, you will simply pay for this amount for your relative to come. It is only telling those countries affected that you can simply pay this amount and we guarantee entry of your relatives.
This is similar to what Margaret Thacher proposed during the hand over of Hongkong to China. She suggested that any Hongkong person with £50,000 could come to Britain and stay. This was thrown out by paliament anyway.
Tit for Tat won't work because we are talking about a very rich country and a poor country. We can increase visa fee for visitors but mind you most of these visitors are ordinary people looking for bargain and can therefore find a cheaper alternative somewhere.

In fact, some are living in the poorest parts of London, working the jobs that most native Brits do not want. The fact of the matter is, these people shouldn't be here. There needs to be a deterrent to ensure that this doesn't continue, as it is bringing shame and disrepute to those Ghanaians who *honestly* come to work and make a living in the UK, or visit and leave again promptly. It's hard to differentiate between the honest and dishonest, so it has led to this. If there is anyone to blame, really, it may be time to look at ourselves as Ghanaians. What are we running from? All this for what?

Took everything away to Britain, left us only 200 million pounds after gaining our freedom. You see when they first came to ghana they never obtained visa, now they want us to obtain visa before we go to britain and again pay 3000 pounds deposit before. They knew very well that Nkrumah will be better off in his country without them, that was why they collaborated with C.I.A and the criminals in Ghana at that time to overthrown Nkrumah and every development started by Nkrumah came to abrupt end.

Why do you reside in the UK other than the fact that you might be a naturalized Brit.? Why don't you move to Ghana, those poor destitute souls you describe live in the slums not by choice but because at this moment in time that is where they can afford to live. Instead of using a broad brush to label them, why don't you help them improve and represent Ghana the way you think is fit? Obviously you are embarrassed by their economic status. Your help does not have to be financial. You can set up a NGO and use your talents and skills to educate and help them move out of their squalor. I agree that you probably have a high influx of Ghanaians overstaying their alloted time in the UK but imposing a generic fee on every Ghanaian is inhumane and will not work. The Ghana government should in turn impose twice (6000 British pounds) the amount of Cash Security bonds proposed by the British on their nationals who visit Ghana. Afterall, the UK Income Per capita is more than 10X that of Ghana's and I am certain this nonsense will go away, instantly. There are better ways to curb illegal immigration, this is not one.

I refer to Veronica's contribution regarding measures taken by the British being fair to Ghanians. Nobody goes to the UK with already made papers in hand. You have to stay there to acquire one. Iam sure Veronica was there initially without papers until through marriage she got hers. Assuming I am granted six months visa to the UK and I spend five and half months in their so called advance country before retuning to Ghana, will they pay any interest on the 3000 pounds deposited? In any case how many Britons have 3000 pounds in their accounts? They introduced this stupid policy in Barclays Bank sometime ago where individuals were required to deposit 100 GHc plus before one can open an account, what happened to this useless policy. Simple , their bank is gradually collapsing in Ghana. They should continue to sleep in their dream world, they will wake up one day to find a completely collapsed bank in Ghana. Since he who call for equity must come with a clean hand I am only asking our Foreign Affairs Ministry to also introduce same policy in UK. Any UK national coming to Ghana should be made to deposit 6000 pounds, twice of what they are demanding before being allowed a visa to Ghana. NONSENSE.

I do not blame the United Kingdom asking for three thousand pounds bond in advance before granting a common holiday visa to see the different site of the world after working for may be two to four years. All is because of the mismanagement, greediness, extortion, stealing and bad governance. Because of this Ghana still remains poor; and there is no work for the youth and the new graduates. And therefore, they flee out to go to the UK to look for job and refuse to return to their homeland. This is the main reason why the United Kingdom is taking an advantage of an unfortunate situation by extorting money from these poor immigrants to pay their immigration officers.
In Ghana the rich and the wealthy and those in Government positions are so greedy and not knowledgeable, because instead of using their riches and their positions to create jobs and develop the country; they rather build houses and buy fancy cars and live extravagantly with their girlfriends, (without even caring for their family) and squander all the nations riches by importing goods from the UK and other places. We create the market for the jobs in the UK. Why can’t we create jobs in our own country? Lack of job has created a condition where all the youth in Ghana are becoming prophets, because Ghanaians easily fall for fore-telling and forth-telling. Many young people after some two weeks training and fasting begin to tell dreams and visions that are not from God and declare themselves as prophets and begin extort money from the weak-minded Christians who have knowledge of the bible.
I do not understand why the UK has decided to raise revenue from people from these poor selected countries who are coming to them for a holiday and at times to stay and work and sustain the country.
I personally don’t think their motive for that bond is what they claim it is, because if a person does not return from the UK and decides to stay and work there, their monthly salary will pay off that three thousand pounds. They just need to be lenient with people who decide to visit their country and give them a chance to see other part of the world.
