Yes, this is a very good move. Further suggestion is, not only the ID cards, but also every Foreigner who enters the Country for a Period of 3 Days or more latest 7 days must be registered, of his or her residence(ecept Diplomats and UNO, ECOWAS and other officials who are accrideted to Ghana). It helps the Nation to have an accurate Statistcs, help Police to trace culprits easily. It will also help to identify of Criminals like Armed Robbers and others. This is done in many Democratic Civilized World eg. German, Switzerland Austria and many others.

Lastly, it will create Jobs eventually, because the Regitration shoul not be free.

It is interesting that people from ECOWAS nations would hide behind the spirit of ECOWAS. We tend to ignore the ingrained and or acquired taste for fraudulent talent and capacity, unauthorized duplication of any document in each of the ECOWAS nations makes the job harder for governments to provide safety and security for its respective citizens. Nigerians of all people know that they are known the world over with their 911 and 411 activities while Ghanaians and Nigerians alike know of passport duplication activities that have gone on with citizens from both nations in their attempt to gain employment and or residency status in each other’s country. To pretend that for the survival of ECOWAS, Ghana and or any ECOWAS member nation should be at the mercy of terrorists like Nigeria's Boko Haram and others will not be acceptable to anyone. Ghana needs to stand on the principles of security, health and safety for its citizens rather than worry about any ECOWAS nation and their peccadilloes.
Let’s face reality for a change. Nigeria has had oil for almost 50 years now and no one in Ghana can tell me any discounted oil and oil related product purchases Ghana got from Nigeria. What about other nations? Yet I remember when under Kwame Nkrumah Ghana gave money to other OAU nations for nation building. So while Nigeria's officials were busy stealing oil money and shipping them in suit cases to Europe for safe keeping other OAU or ECOWAS member nations rationed gas/oil usage. Lately is Ivory Coast not fighting Ghana over territorial waters that have been known to be within Ghana waters over the years? Being an ECOWAS member nation is not a reason to be foolish; as Ghanaians we have to be humane and fair but our own security and survival must not be compromised for an empty pie -in the sky dream of a united West African economic region. Does anyone think the piracy on the seas along the West African coast is the handiwork of others and no citizens of ECOWAS member nations?

A common Nigerian wouldn't hv thought there would be a group called Boko Haram. From investigation it was also review that some of this Boko Haram are not Nigerians but yet we took it as a personal problem and by the grace of God, Inspite of that challenge the economy of Nigeria is somewhat stable in terms of currency fluctuation.. Why are we ECOWAS nations; so we would be able to watch each other back.. It could be better for you today but tomorrow you might need somewhere to lay our shoulder on. In as much as Ghanaians are concern about their economy and security of her citizen we should try and respect the ECOWAS policy in enforcing law.. It should be a bit flexible with ECOWAS member... Note: when Nigeria has their problem, I have not seen ECOWAS/AU coming out openly to at least help solve the problem; for Africa to face the force of the world, we need to Unit and fight corruption first from our leaders... When the head is bad, it's always difficult to find anything good come out from any part of the body... God bless Africa

The Nigerians I know from the Gold Coast era (before Ghana) were hard workers & very honest generation.
Most of them were then officially undocumented & unregistered in our our national system & but yet still, they were all mostly civil servants in the national public sectors such as Ghana Railways Ports & Harbours etc.
But yet still at that time, they were all treated equally as all other Africans (including Liberians)whiles the ECOWAS was even not thought of.
I can recall that Mr. Thomas Oyetunde (a Nigerian) was the first black African to be the CWI (Chief Way Inspector) of then the colonial Ghana Railways before & after Ghana's independence.
I sat in the same primary school classroom with one of his numourous Gold Coast born kids.
Other born in Ghana Nigerians that I know before Busia's regime came were Lasisi (nicknamed: LiniDee) & much more others that I can't name them all now.
Their only identity cards were mere the 'labour card' from the Department of Labour which they needed to produce to get a job!!
To cut it short, those Nigerians of that time are not the same Nigerian generations were're now recieving & having in Ghana!!
There's a very big difference between the two Nigerian generation groups as we're having now; (just looking back to the past).
These national measures lately is surely needed to screen & scrutnize the activities of these new Nigerian groups for our national security despite the effect of the ECOWAS!!!

*****IF THEY CAN'T 'SHAPE UP' TO THE RULES OF GHANA, THEY CAN BETTER 'SHIP OUT' ON THEIR OWN TO ELSEWHERE that they would feel comfortable at home than in Ghana!!!!*****

They have taken over our small business reserved for Ghanaian, for us in Ghana, the negatives far outweighs the benefit we derived from the Nigerians. They shoold be made to obtain VISAs before entering Ghana.
