  If the chines,koreans,japanese etc could study and research and expand their know how in these universities in the western countries and network themselves and find solutions how best to impact their knowledge to their people back home then what is stoping africans in the diaspora to do the same to thier various home countries?

  Will the Ghanaians in Ghana listen to you? Have they not already made laws to prevent you from engaging in the political process? As blind as most of the leaders are, they are not humble enough to be taught by people who have had the benefit of being meaningful participants in building structured systems which are the basic building blocks of any well functioning society.
  
  I have come to the sad conclusion that most of those who can really exact change are intoxicated with how to use their offices to gratify their needs as opposed to bettering the lives of those they serve.
  
  Just present a proposal to them with the singular purpose of administering revolutionary change and you will see how quickly the proposal is co-opted into another company's proposal and used for personal gain!

Our societies lost a lot when the divide between our for fathers and the next generation as we missed out on the cultural values and knowledge. It should not happen again

Good points you raised, but our stupid politicians see these highly talented diasporans as a threat to their own survival. For this selfish reason they will frustrate them from doing their bit to help with the development of our dear country. A case in point, everbdy knows, is what the philistine NDC government did to Prof. Frimpong - Boateng. Is there any hope for us?

  Since peoples of Sub-Saharan African nations became exposed to the value of money nothing else has mattered. We came to desire and love individual riches over any collective welfare that no amount of Christian Biblical sermons or Islamic teaching could undo what we learned from our masters who introduced us to the "finer" things in life.
  So while citizens of other countries value individual riches as we do, they also maintained the love of country. The Chinese, Koreans, Australians, Indians, Pakistanis you name it do travel all over in search of knowledge and some even engage in espionage by stealing secrets from their new found countries for the development of their old home nations. The Indians and Pakistanis did not get their nuclear capability because of home grown knowledge but through acquired know-how from other nations where their citizens went to learn and or work. Most Africans on the other hand seek only the financial rewards and could give a darn what the rest of their fellow countrymen feel. Furthermore, citizens of other nations who do travel far and wide to acquire knowledge do come to understand the essence of education, its role in the gradual development of people and nation while most African in the Diaspora can and do dwell on the linkage between classroom education and self enrichment of monetary benefits only. This myopic understanding of the linkage between advanced education and monetary benefit has been the one and only reason why Africans educated in the Diaspora and at home cannot have patience for gradual development, work without their own desired monetary compensation and or assume the posture that some jobs are beneath their so-called classroom earned credentials.
  For example, the renowned heart surgeon who once headed at Korle-Bu felt disrespected when he was removed from his post as head of Korle-Bu by a new government. Was he there as a surgeon interested in the welfare of his patients or did he see the linkage between his work and title? There are others who did return to their respective African homelands but left because they presumably could not tolerate the slow progress and or government policies that became hindrance to their planned goals. Are government regulations, political interference, jealousies and cultural taboos new to any true African? Did a stay in a civilized nation cloud our judgment we presumed African nations do now practice true democratic values and or system of governance with accountability? Citizens of nations the likes of India, South Korea, Australia China, Russia and others do return home with patience and love of country willing and able to help for as long as it takes to make life better for all; Africans do want to extract as muck power, money and prestige to worth an ounce of sacrifice they are willing to tolerate. In the end the difference between Africans educated and educated individuals of other non African nations lie with our new found understanding of money and status in life while citizens of non-African nations do have love of nations and the sacrifice needed.

  We should not assume that the effective use of knowledge requires tertiary education. We all have a significant amount of knowledge, but do have the culture of using the knowledge to produce results. Further, we should not assume that very well educated people, including those mentioned in the article, know how to transfer knowledge to others. To be sure, we are in the knowledge age-which is post socialist and post capitalist. At this age, what we need is an environment for incentives and the rewards for those who use knowledge effectively. Build it and they will come with improved productivity.

  Kwaku Yeboah's article is refreshing. I have lived in the US for some 34 years and have the education and experience for which some 14 well known companies have compensated me handsomely for. Over the past 6 years I have attempted in a myriad of ways to participate in the developmental discourse in Ghana but I doubt if the bureaucrats would let the door open to us or allow for an honest dialogue that could incorporate the vast knowledge that Ghanaians in the diaspora have acquired in their plans. There seems to be a blatant attempt to either discredit as unworthy or dismiss any contributions we wish to make to help develop the country. Unfortunately most of the people I came across in my attempts had some fancy degrees void of any meaningful experience of value.
