  The Falkland Islands is quite different from the Crimea. In the Crimea the Ukraine is claiming that it was invaded by Russia, it has a long standing treaty with Russia protecting its sovereignty. While in the Islands they were invaded by Argentina and the UK has a long standing treaty going back to 1850 recognising that there is no Argentine dispute to its sovereignty. Meanwhile Russia is claiming the majority of Crimea residents want Russian sovereignty. In the Islands the residents voted 99.8% in favour of British sovereignty. Only 3 people voted against it remarkable given there are 6 Argentines and more than 100 people from other South American countries living on the Islands. Why should a European colonialist outpost like Argentina have any stronger claim than UK. Argentina has a 97% white population. There are no South Americans in its government, they all have Italian, Spanish or German names.
