  What's in a name? I have come to realise that there's something special in this name- Boateng- It's a great name!
  Tell me, do you know any one bearing this name who is a twerp? Lord Paul Boateng (Former British MP), Jerome Boateng (footballer) Germany National team, Prof Frimpong-Boateng, that Ghanaian guy based in the UK (The designer), just name them.
  The initial reaction of some people (including white British) who know history, when I mention my names (Nkrumah-Boateng) is, "gentleman, you're carrying very important and great names". And I become swollen-headed! And they will start to ask are you related to Ghana's first President? Are you related to Lord Paul Boateng? Are you related to the Boateng brothers (the footballers)?etc.
  I advise people to give their children good names, there is something about names. Even Jabez in the Bible wanted to change his name. Names like Abebrese, Donkor, Breguo, etc are not smart names.

  For your information, names like Asante, Owusu, Boateng, Osei are some of the most COMMON names in Ghana, so using a basic law of distribution, you'll get as much Boatengs who are twerps as those who are smart.

  One thing you should also know is that any person can choose any name they like in Ghana. In other words, if I want to be called Kwame Nkrumah, I only have to swear an affidavit that I have changed my name, so theres no deal about great names in Gnana.
  
  If you'ld dare scan all content under the Crime and Punishment section of GhanaWeb and you'ld be surprised to count he number of Boatengs who have commited one crime or the other.
