The initial announcement of the King's trip to the Seychelles indicated that "he went with his parents and about 50 other chiefs and servants." That was very generous of the British to allow that, although they had no business in exiling him from his own country in the first place, so Yaa Asantewaa was damn right to fight their collective asses in 1900.

Curiously, I would like to know a few more tit-bits of the king's exile and his entourage—for my own historical file— such as:

1) Who were his parents that went with him and did they (the parents) return to then Gold Coast with him or they died there?

2) What did the king and his people do to provide for themselves for some 27 years or did the British provide funds for them? Did they do farming, kente cloth weaving, carpentry, odd jobs, etc., etc?

3) Did the king and any of his entourage marry people on the island/s and about how many offspring did they leave behind there and how many did they return with? Do they have “Asante community” there? And

4) Did the British apologize for their foolishness, by exiling the king, and did they compensate him, financially, when they returned him to Asanteman?

I think your questions can be most answered if you contact Manhyia. I know just a little that most of them died there and some married and even the King himself married a lady over there and had kids and one of the King's great grand daughter came to live in Kumasi with some of her brothers for about 60 years. She went back to Seychelles about two months ago and she was called princess Molly Prempeh. She was born in the Seychells and came to Ghana and settled in Kumasi for about 60 years so some of King Prempeh's great grand kids are in Kumasi and others in the Seychelles. To be honest with you those who went to axile with the King still have their families there , i mean their great grand kids. Nana Yaa Asantewaa also died there in the Seychells and during the time of President Rawlings in went there for her remains and buried them back in Ghana in Ejisu A/R. I'm not sure anybody will know how many kids his entourage had but i think for the King they might know from his greatgrand kids. Just consult Manhyia i think they will be happy to give you all the information you need.

Kwasi Gyambibi was the father of Nana
Prempeh I (aka Kwaku Duah III). Among the prominent personalities who went with NAA were Nana Osei Assibey II (Kokofuhene); Nana Kwame Appia (Mamponhene); and Nana Yaa Achiaa (Asantehemaa). Queen Yaa Asantewaa of Edweso and 15 other chiefs followed one year after NAA's arrival in the Seychelles.

There is also an 80-minute DVD documentary by Ivor Agyeman-Duah titled: YAA ASANTEWAA, The Heroism of an African Queen, that is of much interest. The internet (GOOGLE) will also give u more info than u can swallow.

NAA's father was Kwasi Gyambibi. Other prominent personalities who went with NAA were: Nana Osei Assibey II (Kokofuhene); Nana Kwame Appia (Mamponhene); Nana Yaa Achiaa (Asantehemaa); Kofi Afrane (Edwesohene); Nana Kwadwo Appia (Ofinsohene); Agyeman Badu (brother).
Edwesohemaa Yaa Asantewaa and 15 other chiefs followed one year after NAA's arrival in the Seychelles. About 24 people, including Nana Yaa Asantewaa, Nana Yaa Achiaa, Nana Kofi Afraneand Kwasi Gyambibi, died in the Seychelles between 1900 and 1923. NAA returned to Asante as Kumasihene in 1924.

There is an 84-minute DVD documentary by Ivor Agyeman-Duah that is also worth viewing. the title is: YAA ASANTEWAA, The Heroism of an African Queen.

You should find time to search the internet (Google) for tons of info on Asante history - more than you can chew.

This is no news he is just visiting to see for himself where his great grand father went to seek refuge when he was driven from Ghana and he was lucky to be given asylem in that Island just as Nkrumah went into exile when he was over thrown so Nkrumah's children can one day just decide to go and visit those places their father took refuge that is no biggy.In Ghana we try to make an elephant out of everything.

Who in this world wants to associate with you ?they don't even know you so how can they associate themselves with you ? You came to join Ghana because of our historical culture and you have tried as much as possible to blend yourselves into us but not yet because your stealing in government is so much it is not a good thing to keep as a history considering our cocoa,lumber,manganese,gold,diamond that travelled our countries name to that far. Ghana will be better of without these thieves who have joined us. One thing i'm happy about is some of our people from the north are seeing how dangerous it is to Ghana with some people who are bent to destroy our country. They are here to steal,kill and destroy nothing good comes from them.

Both parents of King Prempeh & his younger brother died in the Seychelles Islands along with numerous Asante Chiefs & Queen Mothers including the famous Nana Yaa Asantewaa. Therefore, it is right that the current Asantehene accepted this invitation to visit.
