whoever post this should check the facts. People are well informed about health care resources. The reason for the money being ask doesn't make sense. What happen to OHIP coverage? If she's an international student she must have health coverage through the school so what is the money needed for? Don't just post things without explanation thinking just because it's cancer, people will rush to donate funds.

Her claim that her school insurance would not cover her treatment is very ridiculous to believe. Besides, Canada is very generous country and there are a lot of organizations that she can approach thru. her aunt who happened to be a Canadian to fight her on her behalf against her so-called school insurance. This woman might be ill but to use her illness to scam off $150,000 from GH struggling in Obronikro is very disturbing. No Hospital in Canada will ask poor, sick patient $150,000 before continue treatment .....period. Any reason why the amount sought is in US dollars but NOT in Canadian dollars?

The provincial health care system in Canada covers basic and preventive medical services, as well as emergency care. As an international student with a valid study visa, you should be eligible for a provincial health care card so that you may access these services.
However, there are many medical services that are not covered by the Canadian provincial health care system. These services include dental care, vision care, prescription medications, and some diagnostic testing services.
Additionally, some services such as hospitalization are only partially covered by the provincial health care system. Without additional medical insurance, even a brief hospital stay can cost you thousands of dollars. Some hospitals refuse to admit new patients without proof of private health insurance coverage in Canada.
The medical care offered by your province or territory might not be covered in other provinces and territories. For this reason, you may require private health insurance if you plan to travel.
Itz possible our dear sister doesn't have a private health insurance to cover her medical expenses. Let's try to help if we have the means. At least we can pray for Abigail. I sincerely think this is not a scam looking at some of the concerns raised and what I have found on health insurance for international students in Canada

If I am right, I read somewhere that Canada has good health coverage for its people. It does not matter whether you are citizen or not you will be taken care of at the hospital. I read about the United States Canada's neighbor also has the same policy. The woman will never be left to die. The only thing the hospital is going to do is to keep piling up the bills but will never be jail for not paying your bills. Yes, bill collector may try to harass you which they are not supposed to do. Do not worry about it. You can report them to the attorney general for harassment. All you need to is to call your attorney general's office and give them the debt collector's phone number. You can also arranged with companies that represent the hospital to arrange monthly payment of as low as $5/monthly. Do not be scared to go to the hospital even if you are not in Canada legally. Canada does not want you to die of Leukemia. Getting Leukemia is not death sentence any more. It can be cured. Thanks
