Recent survey by a graduate of KNUST reveal that 90% of Ghanaian want the country to go back to colonial rule due to the inept/visionless of the current leaders. The leaders are unable to deliver effectively to the Ghanaian masses. All state assets are being sold/privatised due to their poor management style. The leaders themselves flow themselves outside when they are not feeling well. If they are able to equip our schools/hospitals, they would go outside the country for medical care.
We need to go back to colonial rule. The back man is incapable of managing his own affairs.

Capitalism and free markets bring innovation and productivity. If you do not bring to the market you close down and a better group replaces you. ECG has been in trouble since CPP days and they are still in trouble. Just look at it this way, someone produces electricity without your kobo, take on credit, distributell and make profit, pay yourselves and buy equipments if necessary. What is difficult about making money out of someone's product? Yet ECG is broke and cannot pay it's suppliers. The model is bad and not sustainable. Give private people the same chance and they will deposit money before the producers supply them with the energy. Reason, they will buy in bulk at discount so that they can sell cheap. That means people will use more electricity, and producers will innovate to produce more cheaper electricity. Everyone is happy and life is bearable. This is the West does better. As a citizen you want affordable electricity but not ownership of a useless entity you enjoy by name. Ghana airways is gone so too is cancelled flights. Ghana Telecom is gone so too is no service. People are happier with mobile phones and airlines are coming in and going out. Same should be VRA and ECG. How someone earning $1 / day pay higher rates on electricity than someone earning $1000 / day?

The world's most profitable airline,Singapore Airlines is state owned.South Korea,Japan, and Singapore all started to industrialize using the state owned economic development formula. Now look at where these nation are.China is using the state-owned formula to advance industrialization.Where you do not have the private sector strong enough to spearhead the economic development of a nation what do you do?The state will have to take the lead and invite the private sector to join or take over when appropriate. After all capitalism benefits the few rich and powerful. It always creates the 1% rich and the 99% poor. And privatization does not always lead to competition and lower prices. The privatization of the rail system in the UK has led to poor services and astronomical increases in train fares. But the train bosses have enjoyed huge yearly pay increases.People talk about capitalism as if it eradicates poverty. Captalism is the worst distributor of wealth in any part of the world. It creates more slaves and few rich masters. It perpetuates greed and exploitation. It is inhumane.A mixture of capitalism and socialism as is obtained in the Nordic countries is the best for mankind.

university's standing against UST? The truth is government does better when they do the least. Ghana police, Army, Ports Authority are all useless entities. Allow privatization and see how smoothly things will be run. Corruption, nepotism, favortism, tribalism, bribery, jujuism all the isms are ripe in government instutitions. Get government out of the way and people are ready to work and make better for themselves and families.

If you decide to study liberal arts obviously you will be shouting 99% and hungry. There are over 3 million jobs without takers. Idiot if you have computer science or math degree let me know. I need prople to employ. However, if you are a school drop out or uneducated then you hsve to wait on government. Have time to demonstrate. Capitalism works, I am a living testament. I started out poor educated Ghanaian. Got to Canada and started school all over to graduate level. Due to givernment controls as in Ghana could not find jobs. Got an offer in the Capitalist US and it is the best system God has created on earth. I am living amongst millionaires, my children are attending the best schools including Harvard. There is no way on earth I should have had this opportunities if I lived in the socialist jungle Ghana. Continue to tickle yourselves and be condemned to darkness and poverty forever. To the uneducated Singapore is the number one Capitalist country on earth. American rich are denouncing citizenship to move to Singapore i.e. the boy from facebook who sold his shares. South Korea is the same. We started same way but they saw the light and changed. But look at STUPUD Ghanaians still crying for Nkrumah, Idiots. We need to change, otherwise we are doomed. It is not working and the youth are suffering, so think outside the box.

ECG should only be allowed to transmit electricity. Private companies should by allowed to buy and sell the electricity which will be transmitted through the ECG distribution system, for a prenegotiated fee per kWh. These private companies will then compete for buyers in the homes and businesses. This is the businesses model used in the US. Here in Texas, my electricity is delivered to my home by a company called ERCOT which is responsible for only the transmission and maintenance of the power grid for the state. However, my electricity provider is a different company called CIRRO ENERGY which buys the electrity and pay ERCOT to transmit it to their various customers homes and businesses. There are over twenty different companies just like my provider CIRRO ENERGY, who are actively competing to have me as a customer. This kind of system will definitely generate fierce competition for innovative ways for these companies to provide cheaper power in a free market system.

If the ECG when privatized is to be the dominant company to sell electricity to ghanaians then the majority of ghanaians who support the privatization of the ECG will regret in the long run.It will use its near monopoly status to increase the price of electricity tariffs astronomically and consumers will be worse off.On the other hand if there is competition in the supply of power to consumers and leads to decreases in the prices of electricity tariffs to consumers then it will be good news for consumers. Will the government also have a robust system in place to check the possible rampant increases in the cost of selling electricity to consumers by a privatized ECG? The privatization of the supply of electricity to consumers does not necessarily lead to cheaper electricity tariffs and at times consumers are ripped off by the companies which make huge profits and instead choose to give their directors fat salaries and shareholders big dividends. The huge profits are never passed on to consumers as cheaper electricity tariffs. For the provision of reliable electricity to ghanaians the government can privatize the ECG but consumers must be protected from rampant price increases which the majority poor ghanaians cannot bear. The ball is in the court of the government.
