Whiles one is alll for media professionals being paid well, it is most unfortunate to suggest the closure of media houses simply because they are unable to pay journalists in their employ well.
Privately-owned media houses are businesses that compete in an open market for market share.
Journalists are under no obligation to continue working for any such business that does not pay them well, are they? So what is the point exactly of such a dubious policy?
No media entity should be closed down by the authorities because it can only afford to pay its staff at levels that will enable it to stay in business - and provide a platform for Ghanaians to exercise their right to express themselves freely and publicly.
Surely, that counts for something, does it not?
Alas, this suggestion is not a very good idea in a democracy in which pay levels for most working people are unsatisfactory, in any case.
