The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has started restoring power to some parts of the country after several hours of blackout to about 70 percent of Ghana on Wednesday night.
Chief Executive Officer of GRIDCo, William Amuna revealed that the blackout was caused by power surge resulting in the loss of several generators belonging to the power distributer.
According to him, it was as a result of a fault on one of the transmission lines or possibly a lightning strike on the transmission lines which has since been determined and engineers assigned to the location worked throughout Wednesday night to Thursday morning to have the problem fixed.
GRIDCo earlier promised that power could be restored at about 9am but before the stipulated time.
