Don’t spare culprits in Airbus scandal – Some Ghanaians charge Special Prosecutor

A section of Ghanaians are high in their expectations for the task given the Special Prosecutor to bring culprits in the infamous Airbus bribery scandal that was revealed through a UK Crown Courts ruling to book.

Speaking to some tertiary students on the subject today, the students told GhanaWeb they are optimistic Mr. Martin Amidu will deliver on the task given to him by President Akufo-Addo in the wake of the scandal.

Addressing other developing issues on the matter, some of the students said they expect former President Mahama to clear his name on accusations of being the ‘government official 1’ who details of the scandal alleges to be a top-ranking Ghanaian official who was bribed through his brother (intermediary 5) for the awarding of contracts to Airbus between 2009 and 2015.

“Personally I think it will be right if he responds in the sense that then Ghanaians will have peace of mind as to the truth in this. Then if he also responds to this and says I am not the one with the backing evidences and feedback he will be fair to us as citizens,” One student said

Some of the students who felt the accusations are borne on political grounds, seeing that a lot of the accusers are members of the ruling new patriotic party, said they expect the former president to ignore the accusations and allow the investigations to exonerate him or otherwise.

“I don’t think the former president needs to respond to some of these accusations because the verdict of the crown court didn’t specifically mention that it is former President Mahama……. But I don’t think they are being fair to the former president at least that respect should be given to him,” a Ghana Institute of Journalism student said.



"I think the former president shouldn’t respond to any accusation. Once his name has not been mentioned we cannot expect a response from him. For now, they are mere allegations and speculations, so I would rather prefer that there should be an investigation and if the investigations go on and his name is mentioned then necessary action should be taken,” another student told GhanaWeb.
